Facility Upgrade Project Announced

The Committee is excited to share some images and plans provided by our Architect & Project Manager, Context Design Group (CDG), for the club’s funded facilities upgrade project.

While we are all still stuck in lockdown, a lot of progress has been made to get initial plans, drawings and designs ready to present to Glen Eira Council. Our funding agreement with GE/State Government outlines that the project must commence later this year, so although we are slightly hampered by not having access to the club, we are proceeding as best we can in order to hit our milestone deadlines.

As previously advised, the project is being funded on a dollar for dollar basis between the club and the City of Glen Eira, via a State Government grant, for a total project cost of approximately $400,000.

The funding received is specifically to assist with improving the overall access to and within our facility for seniors, and will fund the below key areas.

Please note that these images are designed to give an overall view of the scope of the project, and do not include all the planned detail which will come later (once a builder has been contracted). At that time more information will be provided to members, and the planned Q & A session will be re-scheduled (once we can get together in person).

New interiors flooring & ceiling

– New floating floor in hall
– New ceiling tiles in bar area
– New lighting in bar area
– New flooring in bar area (not in funding scope)

New covered outdoor space
– New deck (approx. 2m depth) running full length of clubhouse
– New roof covering the complete deck including entry
– Glazed screen to deck edge at entry

Glass doors/entry
– Double auto-entry doors into lobby/airlock & into bar
– 2 x sets of bi-fold/stacking doors from hall out to deck

Improved inclusive access
– Ramp access at both ends of deck
– Disabled/unisex toilet facilities
– Auto-entry doors

The below plan/drawing outlines the new disabled/unisex toilet facility, situated directly off the bar area and with its own entry point next to the men’s changerooms.

Plans are still underway to renovate the bar, and while this is not part of the funded facility upgrade (it will be treated as a separate project), will be progressed concurrently. Design concepts and plans for the bar upgrade project will be provided to members once a builder has been contracted.

We know that the past few months have been a difficult time for our members and the wider community, and we’ve missed being able to head down to the club for a chat and beer. We hope that these plans for the future of MPBC are something positive that we can all look forward to. We can’t wait to hear the discussions around the bar when we can get back into the club, hopefully soon. Copies of the all the plans & schematics will be available to view at the club when we re-open.

Until then, the Committee will continue to keep everyone up to date via email on how things are progressing. Stay safe and well.

MPBC Committee.
